Q: How do I become a member? A: You can join us in three simple ways:

  1. Online: Visit our “Join Us” page and fill in your details.
  2. Mobile: Dial *509# on your phone and follow the prompts to register.

Q: Can I belong to two political parties at the same time? A: No. According to Kenyan law, you can only be a member of one political party at a time. If you join a new one, you are technically resigning from the previous one.

Q: What do I need to have to join? A: You only need two things:

  • To be a Kenyan citizen.
  • To have a valid National ID or Passport.
  • Note: You must also be a registered voter to participate in certain party activities like nominations.

2. Leaving or Changing Parties

Q: I found out I am registered in another party without my consent. What should I do?

A: This is a common issue. You can “deregister” or clear your name by the following options

  1. On  the eCitizen portal,search for the ORPP link and follow through
  2.  Dial *509# and follow the steps.

Q: How do I resign from the party?

A: Quitting is straightforward. You can resign from the party by the following options:

  1. On CIPA website, click on the membership button then click “De-register”.
  2. On  the eCitizen portal, search for the  ORPP link and follow through

3. Leadership & Elections

Q: How does the party choose its leaders? A: Our leaders are chosen through a democratic process called “Internal Elections” or “National Delegates Conventions.” Any member in good standing has the right to vote for the people they want to lead the party.

Q: I want to vie for a seat (MCA, MP, etc.) in the next election. How do I get the party ticket? A: To run as our candidate, you must:

  1. Be a registered member of the party.
  2. Pay the required nomination fees (these vary depending on the seat).
  3. Participate in the party “primaries” (nominations) where members or delegates decide who will represent the party on the ballot.

4. Money & Funding

Q: Do I have to pay to be a member? A: While joining is free, the party relies on “Membership Dues” to run its daily activities. These are small, regular contributions.

Q: Where does the party get its money? A: Our funding comes from:

  • Membership fees and monthly contributions.
  • Donations from supporters.
  • The Political Parties Fund (money provided by the government to qualifying parties based on their performance in the last election).

5. Rights & Benefits

Q: What do I get for being a member? A: As a member, you are a co-owner of the party. You get to:

  • Vote on party decisions and leadership.
  • Attend party meetings and rallies.
  • Access training on leadership and governance.
  • Apply to be the party’s candidate in a general election.

Q: How is my personal data protected? A: We take your privacy seriously. Your ID number and contact details are used strictly for registration with the Registrar of Political Parties and are never shared with third parties for commercial use.
